All the hotels are clean , offering good food. If you are in the mood to stay at a resort there are plenty of them especially in the Hill Stations like Coonoor, Kodaikanal, and Ooty. Rooms are at a real bargain at $30/40.Ooty is India´s best known hill resorts.Established by the British during the colonial rule , it is situated about 2250 metres above sea level. It is cool throughout the year. Temperature drops to the single digit in the months of December to January. Other than these hotels there are numerous other unclassified hotels, which offer cheap, clean accommodation at about $10 or less per day. There are also TTDC Hotels run by the State Government, which offer comfortable stay at a very reasonable price. Motels are available all along the highway. In addition, there are several youth hostels, which offer cheap dormitory type accommodation. If you prefer a home-type atmosphere, there are service apartments available at Chennai. Each apartment has its own kitchenette, microwave, rice cooker, washing machine etc. Some of them have 5 Star hotel facilities like gym and swimming pool. Many of them have entertainment zones, landscaped gardens, and a grocery store around the corner. The rates are the same as 3 Star Hotels. It will around $800 per month plus electricity charges. There is an acute shortage of hotel rooms at Chennai. The Government has started promoting the home stay concept for foreign tourists in the city. Bed and breakfast would be offered to the tourists at very nominal rates. There would be basic amenities, and adequate safety and security. The tourist can also get a good feel of Indian Culture at a very affordable rate. This can very attractive to the budget tourist. The tariff will be fixed by the agency who is handling the tourist. All types of food are available especially at Chennai, Coimbatore and the bigger cities. Specialty restaurants offering Korean, Chinese, Far eastern Cuisine, Japanese, Lebanese, French and other Continental food are found everywhere. For those who can tolerate spicy food there are some very good restaurants offering the typical Indian food. A meal for two can cost just $8 in the average Chinese reataurant. It can go up to $20 in the better ones.
